IDE at the 5G COMPAD 2.0 Kick-Off Meeting

IDE participated in the Kick – Off meeting of the 5G COMPAD 2.0 (5G Communications for Peacekeeping and Defence 2.0) project, a Development Action funded by the European Defense Fund (EDF).

This was a three-day meeting held in Brussels, hosted by the project’s coordinator, SAAB. The meeting brought together consortium partners, representatives from the European Commission and MoDs Officials of the participating countries, to align operational requirements, technical work and demonstration plans for the project’s implementation.

5G COMPAD 2.0 aims to deliver advanced communication capabilities, including networks as a sensor, precise positioning services, automatic network setup, non-terrestrial networks (NTN), and dynamic spectrum sharing. The project builds on the achievements of the initial 5G COMPAD project, in which IDE also participated and will further mature these results into deployable coalition communication capabilities. These solutions will enable seamless interoperability with both military and civil communication networks and devices, while strengthening the independence, security of supply, and cyber and information security of the EU’s defense industrial and technological base.

IDE is part of a European consortium comprising 18 partners from 11 countries (Austria, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Spain, Sweden and Norway), bringing together major industries, SMEs and leading research and technology organizations.

Within the project, IDE will contribute to the study and design of Continuous Connectivity, developing the overarching networking between different types of 5G networks and their integration into existing national concepts for tactical networking. Additionally, IDE will contribute to the advancement of 5G NTN technologies for the defense domain.
