IDE at the kick-off meetings of the European Defence Standards Reference System (EDSTAR) Expert Groups on Air & Maritime Autonomous Systems

The European Defence Standards Reference System (EDSTAR) has launched two new Expert Groups (EGs), focusing on “Air Autonomous Systems” and “Maritime Autonomous Systems”. IDE is represented in both groups by Dr. Spyros Vasilaras, R&D Programs Manager and Dr. Iosif Paraskevas, Space Programs Manager, New Technologies, who participated in the kick-off meetings held at the CEN-CENELEC Management Centre, in Brussels, Belgium.

The EDSTAR is managed by the European Defence Agency (EDA) under the auspices of the EDSTAR Joint Maintenance Group, supported by the European Committee for Standardization and has the secretariat functions performed by the French Association for Standardization.

Within one year, each EDSTAR Expert Group is expected to deliver a list of “Best-Practice” Standards (BPS) and their selection criteria, recommendations for the application of the selected BPS, and identification of standardization gaps and potential emerging standardization needs.

The EGs bring together specialists from National Defence Administrations of participating Members States, as well as representatives from the European defence industry.
