George Troullinos, CEO of IDE, proposed the creation of Undersecretariat for Defense Industry in the 4th Aviation Development Conference.

Mr. George Troullinos, Chairman of the Board of HASDIG and CEO of IDE (INTRACOM Defense Electronics) participated as a guest speaker in the 4th Aviation Development Conference, held in Athens on the 8th of September 2015, within Athens Flying Week.

In his speech, entitled “Prospects for the Recovery of the Greek Defense Industry”, Mr. Troullinos reiterated HASDIG´s positions, as these have been submitted during the past years to all MoD political leaders but without significant results. Specifically, he stressed out that it is necessary to maintain the existing production infrastructure, and that the industries must participate in the maintenance and support of the weapon systems of the Armed Forces by establishing ventures-partnerships between public and private sector. He also stated that it is mandatory to finance specific multinational and national R&D projects that aim at manufacturing products, not only for the domestic but also for the international market.

Finally, in order to implement the above proposals, he proposed the creation of an Undersecretariat for Defense Industry, which shall be responsible for the defense industries, the technology and the procedures by which the defense procurements are implemented. The staffing should be done by technocrats who, regardless of governments and political situations, will set targets, shall control and report on all issues related to the defense industry as well as to the implementation of defense programs.
